Watch The Birdie.

http://cernigsnewshog.blogspot.com [NewsHog] My Unpaid Punditry colleague PSoTD (Political Story of The Day) is rapidly becoming one of the go-to guys for aggregating coverage of the probable upcoming avian flu worldwide epidemic. He has been scathing about the media's and the current administration's lack of response to the danger and has called, quite nicely all things considered, for the US media to get of its collective ass and play catch-up with the European media.

The Economics of a Flu Pandemic: II

[Tilting at Windmills] Apparently Coxe thought the same thing and his conclusion is that because our society and economy is so much more integrated and so much more connected (for example the flu had to spread by ship back then), and so much more "just on time" that it isn't really a model you can use. We'll likely get hit harder, faster and because many locations have such limited inventories, relying on getting it as they need it, the supply disruptions are likely to be much worse.

[Biopeer] , a city in the Ural Mountains, which separates Asia from Europe, Russia has cordoned off roads and is culling fowl to curb the spread of the infection towards Western Europe. http://rncnyc2004.blogspot.com [Republican National Convention Blog NYC 2004] Described in the magazine Science, this model applied similar treatment and response strategies to those of the first study, but also called for the pre-pandemic inoculation of the population with a flu vaccine, even though the vaccine would be considered low-efficacy. That is, it would be a vaccine of limited value because it would not have been specifically developed to target a rapidly emerging, previously unknown viral strain.
