[The Lancet Infectious Diseases] 60% of people infected with avian influenza A H5N1 have died from the infection, and it has been transmitted from poultry to human beings. Since 2003 China has reported 38 people infected with influenza A H5N1, and 25 of them have died.

Avian influenza (H1N1) and global food shortages linked, says UN ...

[Talk Radio News Service] David Nabarro, UN system-wide coordinator for avian and human influenza briefed reporters on the latest commitments coming from the G-8 meeting last week in Italy. The Secretary General’s proposal on avian Influenza and food shortage was fully adopted with strong political consensus. The SG’s main objective was to get governments to commit to “express(ing) global solidarity in regards to the H1N1 virus and to provide vaccines as needed to countries affected.”

The Milk Bar: I haven't forgotten about Bird Flu

[The Milk Bar] With around 95,000 cases of Swine Flu about these days, the Bird Flu, with a total of 436 cases since 2003, seems to be forgotten. What shouldn't be forgotten is that the total number of deaths from Bird Flu is 262 or a 60% fatality rate.
