[Worldmagblog.com] World Magazine Blog: Comment on Canned tuna, powdered milk, and ...: I read an article in WebMD that stated the US has already had 2 outbreaks of avian flu in commercial chicken farms within the past several years, and was able to quarantine and stop the virus from spreading. It said a lighter strain of avian flu is naturally occurring in migratory birds, but the difference is that they are reinfecting themselves with a stronger version of the strain, that the strain is changing, which is a new event.
[Wdin.blogspot.com] Wednesday, December 27, 2006: This fall, hundreds of Minnesota waterfowl hunters will be asked by the Department of Natural Resources to have their dead birds checked for a highly pathogenic strain of avian influenza known as "bird flu." The DNR plans to test 1,000 wild ducks and geese this year as part of a nationwide strategy for detecting the avian flu known as HP-H5N1, or bird flu. The flu strain originated in Asia and has spread through Europe and Africa.

[Newmediaexplorer.org] Bird Flu In Perspective - Public Fears Exaggerated - Health Supreme: Between the desire not to panic the people and the desire to let it know that the Republic watches over its security by preparing for the worst, there is barely the thickness of a feather of a flu-infected chicken. Now that the H5N1 invader has landed in Europe (Turkey seems to have all of a sudden been integrated into the Union) and established a bridgehead here, the authorities' fever, in Paris, Brussels, and other European capitals, has climbed up several degrees on the thermometer of declarations, meetings, and mobilizations of all sorts.
